Make Money Online Now - A Recession Is GREAT For the Internet Marketing & Internet Advertising Industry!

Good news everyone…

While the rest of the country and world even fears the rumors about the US economy going to the crapper, and a recession is either upon us or going to be very soon, this is going to make us a lot of money. I mean A LOT.

I know, you think I’m insane for saying so, but it’s true. Maybe half true on the insane part too.

How am I able to make such a bold statement? Easy. Market research that I do myself, psychological profiling of the market and it’s advertisers and affiliates/marketers, and toss in a few other things I don’t want to mention that our gifted programmers have developed for us that can pinpoint with pretty damn accurate numbers in terms of trends and tracking of the industry as a whole AND in niche markets.

Here’s how I see it…

If the economy goes to shit, advertisers who normally have unlimited budgets, and even those that have all sorts of budgets are going to be tightening them up significantly, give or take the few that never care, like Pepsi, Coke, IBM, etc. So with offline advertising rates rising, due to declining subscribers, specifically in the newspapers, magazines, radio, and television area, and their content being cheaper to distribute via the internet, along with their ability to literally track campaigns down to the actual point of sale or action by the consumer, can ya guess where these precious advertising budget dollars will end up? The Internets! It’s all just a bunch of tubes anyway, or so we’ve been told.

Yep, it’s true my friends. The Internet is not only the future of REAL advertising ROI, but the present already.

So don’t go around moping and bitching about the dollar slumping. Don’t beat yourself up about Bear Sterns selling out at $2 a share, and certainly don’t go around whining that your trip to the UK is going to cost you 3x more, becuase if you REALLY want to bank, and do it HARD…. Well shit. The Internet is the place to be, especially if you’re on the receivng end of those big budget ad spenders.

I will bet that most companies, especially the major players, will start spending a ton more online than any of their usual offline spots, combined by mid-2009.

By the way… This will specifically mean tremendous growth for industries like the SEO/SEM guys (both the consultants and rogues), Mailers, Affiliate Marketing, Content providing websites (free ones mostly), Ad networks, Security firms (the online ones, sorry Blackwater, you have more than enough wars to keep you guys busy for a long time), Search Engines (expect to see 2nd and even some 3rd tier engines skyrocket in revenues), Domainers (the wholesale market is cooling just a bit, but I think it will jump back up very soon), Website Developers and Website Designers, and of course and unfortunately scammers (biz opp bullshit, ebook crap, get rich quick types).

Those are only a few really broad and general examples. I’ve been poring over lists of niches that are going to absolutely bank so flippin hard it’s almost a surreal feeling.

Anyway, figured it was a while since I made any real informative posts, so hopefully you guys and girls use this one to your benefit, and if you’re going to regurgitate it on your own articles or blogs, at least give me SOME credit for it. It’s pretty insulting when I see people take my theories and pretend they came up with it themselves.

(come on, you didn’t think I could end a perfectly good post without a little ranting at the end!)

As the Internet leaks into more companies marketing mindsets - we will see a massive increase in online marketing budgets. Remeber companies like Coca Cola may have unlimited budgets, but they still set limits in consideration with the Web.

As marketing budgets go down, internet budgets will seemingly be pushed to extraordinary levels.

Expect alot more competition for your niches in the next five years though. People will catch on soon enough.

I think your post is dead on. While I have been complaining about the price of gas and the cost of bread I have only started to realize that the internet marketing arm is going to thrive. People are going to go where their advertising dollar produces the most. They are going to go where they can pinpoint the most effective strategy.

So while some people are crying in their beer about the condition of the economy we in the online advertising world should be rallying and preparing for a wave of new business.

Thanks for getting my head on straight about the up side of the economy.

Wish I could agree! But past successes with online marketing are starting to fall pretty rapidly - CTR in general has been dropping for quite some time now, for example - and as recession kicks in many are going to modify their online behavior further. No more clickfests, I’m afraid, except for very specific products.

As always in recession, the informed / prepared / lucky few WILL profit - others are going to really start feeling the pinch…

Actually, trends are beginning to show that economic slowdown in the brick and mortar world is good for ecommerce: http://blog.shareresults.com/?p=664
